UvA students can make use of the CareerSet AI toolExternal link, a CV and interview feedback tool. After uploading your English CV, you will receive instant feedback on its content, presentation, impact, and highlighted skills. You can also upload a job description to identify (hidden) skills required for a role and receive tailored suggestions on how to adapt your CV.

In addition, the tool allows you to practise interviews in English by uploading your CV and a job description and answering mock questions through video or in writing.

Please note: The tool offers useful guidance, but it often focuses on highlighting results. In the Dutch cultural context, mentioning results can be helpful, though it is not always necessary to highlight them so prominently.

This tool is provided by the UvA in collaboration with CareerSet. Students can sign in using their UvAnetID, and alumni can request a login code via emailExternal link.

Data privacy

The CV Feedback Tool does not store any data that can be accessed by the UvA or CareerSet. Small elements of your CV are kept to generate feedback.

NeurOlympicsExternal link is a game-based assessment designed to measure core cognitive abilities. Through four short games of about 10–15 minutes each, it evaluates your executive functions: the mental skills that guide your daily decisions, behavior, and problem-solving. These abilities play an essential role in many aspects of life, including your professional performance. After completing the assessment, you’ll receive a personalized Brain Profile. This provides an objective overview of your cognitive strengths and shows how your abilities may fit certain roles or work environments. The tests are available on a limited basis and are used by large companies, governments, etc., as part of their recruitment process and as a starting point for your PDP (personal development plan).

Big 5

This test is based on the ‘Big 5’ theory of personality traitsExternal link. This is the most commonly used and most well-researched personality theory, meaning it is scientifically valid. The test provides feedback on five basic dimensions of your personality: openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, altruism and neuroticism (OCEAN). There are no ‘bad’ scores. It can, however, be used to find a work environment that is right for you and can help you present yourself effectively. While your personality traits remain relatively stable throughout your life, some of them may change or shift as time goes on.

Many companies use more ‘popular’ tests such as the DISC test and the MBTI test as well, despite the fact that the scientific reliability and validity of these tests has not been established.

DISC-test

The DISC testExternal link is a quick way to identify your DISC type and personal DISC profile. Learn how the DISC factors (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Compliance) can help explain both your everyday actions and your behaviour towards other people.

MBTI-test

Another commonly used personality test is the MBTIExternal link (only available in Dutch), which distinguishes between 16 different personality types and is based on the theories of Carl Gustav Jung. The MBTI model includes four dimensions: introvert/extrovert, thinking/feeling, sensing/intuition and judging/perceiving.

Work values test

Which values do you find important in your job? By taking the Work values testExternal link, you can learn how this might affect your future job and the corporate culture that is right for you.

Personal values

The Personal values testExternal link deals with the personal values that are most important to you. This is relevant to finding out what drives and motivates you.

The Competency test is used to measure the 16 competences that are most strongly related to work. A free version of this test is available in EnglishExternal link (but not in Dutch).

After taking the tests, you can schedule an individual consultation with a career adviser to discuss the results. This is your opportunity to ask questions about how to apply the test results when making career-related decisions.
